RYD DON'T

Ahead of the release of his debut album on January 18th, RYD shares another atmospheric cut from the record, simply and pointedly titled ‘Don’t’. Speaking about the new track, producer Ryan Downie shares: "'Don't' is a blunt way of saying 'please don't contact me anymore'. It's about that time after a relationship has ended when the one who had broken you tries to come back. t’s a representation of how when a relationship ends you can never remember the good memories clearly in a good way. A break of trust is irreparable and so are the memories once plagued by a fog of heartbreak.” The whole album is set to follow in this theme of heartbreak and deceit, and with the accompanying video, ‘Don’t’ is a particularly vivid presentation of the pain and confusion that follows an end of a relationship. In the video directed by John Powell, we view both sides of a heterosexual couple as they visit past memories, we’re not told who was the main perpetrator of the pain, all we do know for sure if that the end result is one of separation. All in all, this hazy, electronic-pop song from RYD handles broken trust with a delicacy and deep understanding that we hope to hear from of in the upcoming album. - Hannah Thacker (Photo credit: Davy Evans)
